Game 57: Senators 9, Mets 6

Trailing 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning, the B-Mets worked the bases loaded off reliever Pat McCoy on a walk, a bunt single, and a flare to right field. McCoy held steady as he got Reese Havens to strike out on a pitch in the dirt for the second out which brought Jefry Marte to the plate. Marte grounded a ball down the third-base line that bounced foul and landed a good 8-12 inches to the left of the bag. Home plate umpire Travis Hatch didn't see it that way and two B-Met baserunners scored before a great block of the plate by catcher Devin Ivany prevented a third and got the Senators out of the jam.
It wasn't the worst call I've ever seen, but it was egregiously bad and Hatch deserved the earful that manager Matt LeCroy gave him between innings.
But the Senators needed to regroup because all of a sudden they found themselves down for the first time since the third inning and only nine outs remained. The B-Mets called on reliever Brandon Moore, but the righty who recently finished serving a 50-game suspension was not sharp at all. He walked Chris McConnell and pinch-hitter Jimmy Van Ostrand before plunking Eury Perez to load the bases. Manny Mayorson was the hero on this night as he grounded a ball down the line (a good four feet fair) to plate two runs that would put the Senators back on top this time for good.
LeCroy put it best at the importance of striking right back, "I think if we don't score there, we lose. It's important to me to show that other club and pitcher that it's not over. We're going to scrap and get back in this ballgame."
UPDATE: Due to an incorrect score sheet, the home plate umpire was misidentified as Travis Hatch. instead of Nick Marhley.

• Cameron Selik's AA debut lasted only 10 pitches when he came off the mound in serious pain after delivering a 2-2 pitch to pinch-hitter Rylan Sandoval. After the game, it was disclosed that the injury was to his lat and not his elbow as first feared.
• Jesus Valdez smoked his 4th and 5th home runs of the season
• Eury Perez extended his hitting streak to eight games
• Tim Pahuta was the only starting position player for the Senators who didn't record a hit
• Jeff Kobernus hit off a tee today and may return by this weekend's series in Reading

LeCroy on the terrible call and the outcome
"He said he had it fair. I obviously think he missed the call but I know we're all human. I was proud of the boys for battling back. That could have been a heart stopper there and we battled and got a big hit ourselves...I'm really excited for this win. I think it was big for us to come here and win the first game at home. Hopefully, we can get on a roll here."
